Friday the 14th we heading to DSA for a little winter spotting trip. Winter gives you brilliant light, got to love the winter sunshine. A lot of people think of Doncaster Airport as a quiet airport. However Robin Hood has a huge cargo operation.

The South Yorkshire airport has worked hard to build a great cargo reputation. The airport has welcomed some great aircraft in recent years in 2015 the biggest beast around landed. The An-225 payed a visit in 2015. Since then cargo has grown at DSA. Boeing 747s are regular visitors to the ex RAF base. Friday saw a beautiful Boeing 747-400 operate a flight from the Kenyan Capital for Astral Aviation / Air Atlanta Icelandic. This freighter is registered TF-AMM.

The above photo shows the B747-400 slam down on the Doncaster runway. Just look at that smoke!!!. So why should you spot at Doncaster Sheffield Airport- Its simple, the variety at DSA makes it a pleasure to visit. Everything from An-124s , B747s and even the nice noisy An-12s. You can not forget the resident B727 Oil spill response aircraft. You may of seen that beast at some UK airshows. Plus DSA is of course a normal airport that operates charter flights. TUI UK , Flybe , Wizz Air and Thomas Cook operate from Doncaster. You can see below a Enter Air Boeing 737 operating a Lapland flight on Friday.

Robin Hood Airport has lots of places to Plane spot. It all depends on the shot you want. We will be publishing a spotting Guide to each airport within the New Year.
So if you love aircraft, aviation, variety then head down to DSA and do some spotting. Please be careful if you are spotting. Do not block any Crash Gates , Park safety and take any litter home.
